WINE TASTING NOTE: Domenico Clerico Langhe Nebbiolo DOC ‘Capisme-e’ 2022

Bottle and glass of wine

Capisme-e……..Understand Me.

That’s what this beautiful term means in the Piedmontese dialect. And that’s why this wine bears this name. It is an invitation to understand Nebbiolo from Monteforte d’Alba (in the heart of the Barolo region) in its purest form. No oak, no extended maceration, no overbearing alcohol or tannins.

What a lovely metaphor, wouldn’t you agree?

About the producer

This wine is produced by Domenico Clerico, one of the most prolific and impressive producers of the Barolo region in Northwest Italy. Click here to learn more about Domenico Clerico.

Wineitupanotch Tasting Notes

This wine is made from 100% Nebbiolo. After a short and gentle maceration, the wine is aged in stainless steel and amphorae, all with the aim to preserve fruit and freshness. But there is no lack of density or complexity in this wine. It is easy going yet cerebral, with perfectly balanced alcohol, tannins , acidity and fruit, while also delivering ripe cherry, tart orange peel, tar and rose notes. It’s gorgeous!

It is worth noting that this bottling is more expensive than other Langhe Nebbiolo’s that can be found on the market. But the extra money paid is rewarded with extra precision and clarity in the glass. There is a definitive view to quality evident in this wine, which the estate notes is a nod back to its traditional roots and culture of the region. Notwithstanding, Langhe Nebbiolo wines are intended to be drunk young - so don’t hang on to this one for too long. It is delightful now and will hold for another 3-4 years.

Wine it up a notch by pairing this wine with charcuterie and cheese, pasta with meat sauce or polenta with braised mushrooms.

Cheers, Friends!
